At the center of St. Luke's Episcopal Health System is the flagship St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, founded in 1954 by the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.

Committed to providing a premier network of community hospitals, physician clinics and outpatient facilities serving the Greater Houston community, St. Luke's Episcopal Health System also includes St. Luke's The Woodlands Hospital; St. Luke's Lakeside Hospital; St. Luke's Sugar Land Hospital; St. Luke's Hospital at The Vintage, scheduled to open December 2010; and St. Luke's Episcopal Health Charities, the largest public charity in Houston devoted solely to healthcare for the underserved.
St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital is a state-of-the-art 912-bed tertiary care teaching institution where research and education directly impact patient care. The hospital is home to the Texas Heart® Institute (THI) at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, founded by world-renowned cardiovascular surgeon Denton A. Cooley, MD in 1962, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the devastating toll of cardiovascular disease through innovative and progressive programs in research, education and improved patient care.
The Texas Heart® Institute, the largest cardiovascular center in the world, is currently ranked #5 for Heart and Heart Surgery in U.S.News & World Report's "America's Best Hospitals" survey, and has been in its top 10 for 19 consecutive years.
